The Centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology in Houghton, Johannesburg provides a one-stop solution to your diabetes needs

Our Office Hours are 08h30-17h00, Monday - Friday. We are closed on Public Holidays.
All consultations are by appointment only. Currently the following waiting periods are applicable for appointments:
- Doctors: 6 weeks
- Diabetes Educators: Emergencies - same day, Routine appointments - 1 to 4 days
- Dietician: 1 week
- Podiatrists: 2 weeks
We offer services through two options:
- The CDE Diabetes Management Programme. This is a managed diabetes care initiative for members of contracted medical aids. This allows eligible patients to receive first-world diabetes care without any of the burden of personal administration of bills and claims. Click here for further information
- Fee-for-service. Please note in this regard that we are a cash practice. You will be asked to settle your account in full after receiving our services and then submit your account to your medical aid (if applicable).
Diabetes Consultations are a valuable resource. You will be charged for appointments that are not kept or that are not cancelled at least 24 workday hours prior to the scheduled time. This applies to ALL patients (CDE Diabetes Management Programme or “Fee-For-Service”).
Please arrive at the Centre 30 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment to fill in forms and do blood tests as necessary. Take the distance, route and likely traffic conditions at the time into account when planning your journey.
For all appointments, please report to the Ground Floor Reception first.
For consultations at our Centre, please bring the following:
- SA National ID book or passport;
- Medical Aid Card (if applicable);
- Blood glucose meter and diary;
- Current Insulin delivery device (pen & needle, syringe, pump – as / if applicable);
- Results of any recent laboratory tests;
- A complete list of the names and dosages of all current medications, including over-the-counter preparations;
- Any letter of referral or report/s from other doctors / healthcare providers;
- A list of concerns or questions you would like addressed.
Please do not wear elastic or fashion stockings - these will need to be removed when your feet / legs are examined.
Allow a further hour in your schedule after your appointment with a doctor for the completion of any supplementary (usually annual) tests. You may want to bring the following for these:
For Treadmill ECG:
- Comfortable clothing suitable for exercise;
- Running shoes / takkies;
- Blood glucose meter and strips;
- Glucose sweets and a snack in case of low blood glucose levels;
- Soap and a towel, if you would like to shower after the procedure.
For Eye Test & Examination:
- Normal spectacles used for distance vision;
- If wearing contact lenses – solution and container so you can remove them.
To facilitate regular diabetes care and to avoid future lengthy waiting periods, you are advised to book your next appointment/s as you leave
